Education
Bampton Classical Opera is committed to education in opera all all levels, and our activities have included the following:
Pre-performance talks
In order to educate and introduce our rare repertory to our audiences,
explanatory talks are given before many of our performances, either
by artistic director Jeremy Gray or by expert visiting speakers.
Programme notes
Programmes for our summer opera always contain a wealth of relevant material, much of which is made available online as well. Navigate to the relevant opera via the repertory page.
Workshops for adults
In October 2005 we presented a weekend for distance learning
degree students on the Opera Studies course at Rose Bruford College.
This considered aspects of Haydn's L'infedeltà delusa and
issues concerning the performance and production of classical period
operas.
Bampton Schools Opera
A significant element in our education programme is our work in schools. We are especially proud of extended projects undertaken at Queen's College London, enabling secondary-age girls to rehearse excerpts from works by Mozart alongside our male principals, culminating in public performance. This approach has proved to be hugely successful – the girls benefit from participation as equals rather than taking smaller or chorus roles, raising their individual standards to an impressive degree and boosting their confidence in a supportive environment.
