Conductors

Bampton Classical Opera has worked with a number of conductors, some of whom are described below. We do not have a permanent music director.

2017 season

 

Anthony Kraus (The School of Jealousy) studied at Bristol University, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the National Opera Studio.  As a conductor, accompanist, organist and choral trainer he has performed throughout the UK and Europe.  He was Organist of St. Paul's Church, Knightsbridge 1996-2000, and has worked for numerous opera companies, orchestras and choirs, including English Touring Opera, English National Opera, Almeida Opera, The Grange Festival, Opera du Rhin (Strasbourg), Sinfonia Viva, Leeds Festival Chorus, Huddersfield Choral Society.  From 2003 to 2017 he was on the staff of Opera North, serving variously as Chorus Master, Acting Head of Music and Assistant Head of Music.  While with the company he conducted several productions including The Marriage of Figaro, Così fan Tutte, Don Giovanni, Ruddigore, The Bartered Bride, Il Tabarro & Suor Angelica (Puccini), The Adventures of Pinocchio (Dove), Joshua (Handel).  He was also Chorus Master for the acclaimed production of Peter Grimes on Aldeburgh Beach in 2013.  He is Music Director of the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and Associate Music Director of Sinfonia of Leeds.  Future conducting plans include Madama Butterfly for Opera North, Hansel and Gretel for Royal Northern College of Music, and A Midsummer Night's Dream (Britten) for The Grange Festival.
