Current season

Jeremy Gray is joint artistic director of Bampton Classical Opera and also director of productions. His work has brought together his interests in history, theatre, stage design and music and he has learned to enjoy translating libretti and even fundraising. His directorial work has been consistently well-received, and he has built up an enviable reputation for intelligent humour and freshly accessible productions. He currently teaches at Queen's College London. In more restful days he read theology and history of art at Cambridge and for a PhD on medieval manuscript illumination at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London.

John Wilkie (revival director) trained as an actor and has performed with many well-known theatre companies throughout the UK, as well as television work for the BBC. He is the founding director of Opera Bohemia where he has directed productions of La boheme, Lucia di Lammermoor and Madama Butterfly. Later this summer he will direct his new production of Eugene Onegin at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with them. Recently, he assisted in directing the Samuel Beckett season at the Bristol Old Vic. He was the recipient of an apprenticeship at The National Theatre and is currently trainee director at the award winning Kings Head Theatre in London, where he worked on Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off and will work on future productions of La Traviata and Die Fledermaus.  John is a member of the Young Vic Directors Group.
