Paer– LEONORA (or Conjugal Love)
Ferdinando Paer (1771-1839) was a dominant figure in Italian opera during the first decade of the 19th century. He was an acquaintance of Beethoven in Vienna and was greatly admired by Napoleon, whom he followed to Paris in 1807 as his maître de chapelle. His operatic work, mostly in the semiseria genre, is characterised by rhythmic drive and instrumental richness, and his lighter numbers especially are noted for wit, melodic grace and writing of great vocal dexterity.
